Will The Big Bull offer anything new after Scam 1992? (Trailer at the end of the article)
Did you see The Big Bull trailer? I know what your feelings are. Why would anyone want to watch The Big Bull when you already have seen Scam 1992 (which has a rating of 9.4 on IMDB) and got blown away by its existence? What is new that can be shown in this movie which wasn’t shown in an extremely detail-oriented 10-episode series?
Why would anyone want to watch Abhishek Bachchan in 2021 anyway? And when the movie is directed by Kookie Gulati who directed Vivek Oberoi starrer ‘Prince’ in 2010. But you never know what’s on offer till you see the movie.
We had the same feeling about the show Scam 1992- “Who is this new guy”, “He doesn’t even look like Harshad Mehta”, “He can’t pull it off”. But it’s been 6 months since its release and people can’t stop applauding the show even now.

All we know about The Big Bull is that it’s going direct to OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar. (It’s always weird to write Disney + Hotstar; they should do something about this name). It will be releasing on 8th April. The teaser is already out, and the look of Abhishek reminds you of his previous movie Guru where he allegedly played the role of Dhirubhai Ambani. The teaser has the voiceover of Ajay Devgan(Devgn). It’s to be seen whether Ajay will be a part of the movie. There is no visual of any other actor. I’m sure more actors like Illeana D’Souza who is part of the movie will be seen in the trailer which is releasing on 19th March.
Can Disney + Hotstar turn it around?
Now here’s the thing with Disney Plus Hotstar. Last year, they bet on a lot of big-budget movies. To be precise, 7 titles including Laxmmi Bomb, Sadak2. All the movies were panned by the critics and audiences alike. So, there is a lot that’s riding on The Big Bull. Hotstar has no competition in the OTT ecosystem when it comes to its subscriber base which stands at 25 million. But if OTT platforms keep offering below-average films, in no time the producers will go back to the theatres and give up on the direct-to-OTT model. They will move back to the same model they had earlier where the movie goes to the OTT platform 2-3 weeks after its theatrical run).
Of course, the sports section is a huge draw for Hotstar but these are short formats and it only can be seen(or it makes sense to be seen) when it’s live. If this happens, you will be left with watching re-runs of ‘Simpsons’ or Indian shows by Dice Media, TVF, etc.
