Marvel’s ‘The Fantastic Four’ Secures Stellar Lineup

The iconic superhero team, originally conceived by Marvel Comics legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, will feature Pedro Pascal as the elastic Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as the light-manipulating Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as the fiery Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the rock-bodied Ben Grimm (the Thing).

Disney has also shuffled the premiere dates for its upcoming features, positioning The Fantastic Four for a July 25, 2025 debut, while “Thunderbolts” is now slated for May 2, 2025.

Details of the plot are traditionally scarce from Marvel’s camp. In the source material, The Fantastic Four gain their powers from cosmic rays during a space mission. Reed Richards can stretch his body to incredible lengths. His partner and later spouse, Sue Storm, possesses the ability to become invisible and generate forcefields. Her brother Johnny Storm is capable of igniting himself into flame and flying, while Reed’s close friend Ben Grimm is transformed into a super-strong, stone-like creature.

Who is directing ‘The Fantastic Four’?

The Fantastic Four film, helmed by Matt Shakman of “WandaVision” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” fame, is penned by the trio of Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer. Pedro Pascal’s involvement was rumored as early as November before confirmation, with Marvel keeping a firm seal on casting details for the revered superhero family. Production is anticipated to commence by summer.

Pedro Pascal, a current Hollywood favorite, is expected to complete filming Season 2 of HBO’s “The Last of Us” before embodying Richards. Joseph Quinn, who captivated audiences as Eddie Munson in “Stranger Things,” and Emmy winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach, celebrated for his role in “The Bear,” are set to bring their talents to the Marvel ensemble.

Vanessa Kirby, having ascended to fame through “The Crown” and commended for her Oscar-nominated role in “Pieces of a Woman,” has expressed her enthusiasm for playing Sue Storm, a role she finds inspiring.

Previously, The Fantastic Four was not integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with film rights held by 20th Century Fox, which released its iterations in 2005, and 2007, and a reboot in 2015. Following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, the team is now poised to join the MCU.

The MCU offered a glimpse of Reed Richards in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in 2022, with John Krasinski’s cameo acknowledging fans’ casting wishes.

Who is the main villain in ‘The Fantastic Four’?

While Marvel has not yet disclosed the adversaries for The Fantastic Four in the upcoming film, Victor von Doom stands as their arch-nemesis in the comics.

With the announcement of the complete team, Marvel Studios cements a new cornerstone for the MCU, succeeding the iconic roles of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers and Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark post-“Avengers: Endgame.”
