The UK original show, Wilderness, is a psychological thriller series written and produced by BAFTA Breakthrough Brit Marnie Dickens. The show is based on the novel of the same title by B.E. Jones. It depicts the story of a British couple, Liv and Will, and their journey to the American wilderness where their dream vacation soon turns into a nightmare.
The series, set to release globally on Prime Video this fall, showcases Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen as the lead actors. The story revolves around Liv and Will’s seemingly steady relationship, which gets shaken when Liv discovers Will’s infidelity. Liv decides to fulfill her longtime dream of an American road trip, and Will sees it as an opportunity to make amends. While on their trip, they accidentally bump into Will’s colleague, Cara, and her boyfriend, Garth. Liv’s plans for revenge go awry, and the foursome gets tangled up in a way that changes all their futures. Marnie Dickens, the series’ writer and creator, stated that the show’s themes revolve around issues such as heartbreak, betrayal, paranoia, and revenge which are common in everyday relationships.
On the themes of the series, writer, creator, and executive producer Marnie Dickens said: “Who doesn’t know someone who’s been cheated on? That gut punch on discovery, the trail of paranoia and suspicion it leaves behind, the difficulty of trusting again. It’s enough to tip anyone over the edge. And that’s where we meet our heroine, Liv, as she’s lied to over and over by the man she loves. Of course she wants revenge, and I, for one, hope she gets it.”
